POSITION PURPOSE:
As a member of the patient care team, performs a variety of technical and other direct care functions with the patient and family as delegated by the Registered Nurse. The LPN/PCA is competent to provide care to patients as further described, ranging from adolescents to geriatrics. In addition to all the primary responsibilities, the LPN/PCA is responsible for performing other responsibilities to facilitate service in a timely manner to patients (refer to �Task by Dept� section).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ambulates patients utilizing appropriate patient supports, such as walkers, crutches, as ordered by M.D. or R.N.
- Utilizes sterile technique as indicated.
- Changes simple sterile dressings.
- Obtains and records vital signs and report abnormalities to the R.N.
- Measures height and weight.
- Assists other healthcare providers in examining or preparing the patient.
- Performs skin preps as ordered (except head preps).
- Provides basic maintenance of medical equipment, i.e., change batteries, bulbs.
- Communicates with patient care team
- Provides care appropriate to the patient population served.
- Utilizes principles of body mechanics.
- Sets up and applies various patient equipment such as pneumatic boots and pulse oximetry.
- Reports any missing or malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel promptly.
- Follows infection control guidelines, i.e., Universal Precautions
- Incorporates the information in the unit-specific equipment manual in providing safe patient care.
- Completes required unit-specific competencies that are outlined in the unit�s educational manual.
- Provides care appropriate to the patient population served.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Valid LPN license required.
EXPERIENCE: Experience and Certification preferred.
PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION: Currently licensed as LPN in the state of MA. Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position and its location. For more specifics, refer to functional job descriptions located in H.R.
