The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center is recruiting for a highly qualified Registered Nurse to be the Utilization Review nurse for our Emergency Department. The Registered Nurse (RN) for Emergency Department (ED) Utilization Management is responsible for the coordination of care to the ED patient population. He/she is responsible for conducting utilization management activities/lnterQual reviews on ED patients being considered for admission, including collecting, analyzing, and reporting data. The primary practice setting for this role is the Emergency Department areas of the facility but may cross to other areas in the Medical Center. He/she assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, evaluates and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, patients, families and community providers. The Utilization Review RN conducts reviews of the patient's medical record and other documents, ensuring that the admission process follows utilization review guidelines through application of established lnterQual criteria. The UR RN will work closely with a variety of healthcare professionals, clinical services, internal and external services and community agencies to provide efficient and effective health care using the appropriate resource management criteria. He/she serves as an integral member of the treatment team and applies case management principles to the ED patient population to ensure appropriate utilization of resources and level of care. The UR RN assists in facilitating ED patient flow by identifying and resolving barriers which may hinder effective patient care. He/she engages in process improvement activities that are focused on efficient care delivery and promote positive clinical and quality outcomes including reducing unnecessary admissions, readmission rates, unnecessary ED visits and time spent in the ED. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 0800am - 1630 or 9:30 am - 6:00.
