| The incumbent works in the Ambulatory Care Clinic of the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. Major Duties: The function of the Licensed Practical Nurse in Ambulatory Care is to provide and assist with the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse Veteran population. The LPN possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. This broad based clinical knowledge enables the LPN to effectively assist and implement health promotion and prevention interventions, assist and/or manage acute and chronic illness states, performs services requiring technical and manual skills, examples: dressing changes, blood draws, respiratory treatments etc., and obtains basic patient data, i.e. vital signs, weight, height, review current medications taken, etc., participates in planning, and contributes to evaluation of individualized interventions related to the care plan or treatment plan. Prepares and administers prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and performs treatments according to established policies and procedures. Triages patients for scheduled and unscheduled appointments. The LPN will ask many screening questions on triage for preventative health maintenance. The LPN will work under the under sight of an RN while still working at the top of their licensure. They will also provide timely and appropriate telephone calls to Veterans for diagnostic results and communications of clinical needs. Tour of Duty: Primarily day shift, Monday - Friday 0730-1600, but subject to change based on the needs of the facility/service. Will rotate through weekly rotation of 0800-1630 shift and coverage for the Saturday clinic 0730 to 1130. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Physical Requirements: The position is mostly desk work, but could require regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, lifting and repositioning patients or similar activities. The incumbent will be required to lift to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 35 pounds frequently. The incumbent must be able to transport and transfer patients (e.g. stretcher to wheelchair, bed to stretcher, wheelchair to bed, etc.) safely. The incumbent will be required to handle equipment and must be knowledgeable of an able to use safe lifting techniques. The use of correct body mechanics required. The incumbent should also have the ability to identify the potential for safety hazards. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing (aid permitted), speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading, and logical thinking. Also, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13" to 16". The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes-very fast pace, requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes-noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials (1-2 hours at a time). |
