The Registered Nurse (RN) is administratively responsible to the Nurse Manager of Inpatient Dialysis and PICC Unit and Chief Nurse, Extended Care. The nurse at this grade/level manages clinically complex patients and situations related to patient care assignments, as well as clinical and administrative processes affecting the unit/work/group/area. The Registered Nurse (RN) is administratively responsible to the Nurse Manager of Inpatient Dialysis and PICC Unit and Chief Nurse, Extended Care. The staff nurse is considered the journeyman level and has developed and acquired the clinical experience and knowledge to be proficient in nursing skills, practice, and procedures and typically has developed a specialized nursing practice. The staff nurse manages clinically complex patients and situations related to patient care assignments, as well as clinical and administrative processes affecting the unit/work/group/area. He/she is able to function independently, is self-directed in clinical practice and career development, and is actively involved in the functions and activities on the unit/work/group/area. It is expected the nurse provides safe, effective, quality care to patients and possesses the management skills necessary to function as charge nurse. This nurse is responsible for guiding, directing, and appraising the performance of support staff and providing education for support staff, students, and new employees. The RN uses the nursing process to implement patient care for self and others. He/she models the interdisciplinary team approach to patient care and involves others in this process. He/she provides education to patient, families and significant others; administers medications and treatment; participates in the quality improvement process; and is attuned to the needs of adult and geriatric patients. The RN is responsible for practicing in accordance with and adhering to regulations such as the Nurse Practice Act, VHA policies and procedures, and those of outside accrediting bodies. The RN is knowledgeable and adheres to American Nephrology Nurses Association Nephrology Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, Association of Vascular Access Standards and Infusion Nurse Society Scope and Standards of Practice. This nurse demonstrates dedication to the nursing profession and represents nursing in the community and professional activities. Pay Schedule: NG42 Work Schedule: The tour of duty will be primarily day/evening shift, Monday-Friday, but flexibility for off-tours, occasional weekend coverage and rotational on-call is required Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
