**NOTE: Upon assignment to this position, the incumbent's salary will include two additional steps for assignment to a Head Nurse/Nurse Manager position He/she collaborates with internal interdisciplinary stake holders to manage referrals and access medical resources. The Nurse Manager interacts with external providers and agencies to identify and coordinate medical services not available through the Amarillo VA Healthcare System (AVAHCS). Guides and evaluates staff in the coordination of Veteran care/services, prioritization of client diagnosis/needs, and individualization of interventions, expected client outcomes, quality of documentation and efficient utilization of facility resources. Monitors workload and manages staffing based on workload needs and reports significant information forward to Service Chief as necessary. Provides overall management of the department staffs time and attendance. Manage Community Care Service staff in delivering nursing care/services. Demonstrates sound administrative and clinical judgement making decisions. Promotes professional development and motivates employees to work at optimal efficiency. Develops policies, protocols, and guidelines for staff work within the VA Care in the Community office. Monitors performance metrics and implements performance improvement and systems redesign projects to address areas of concern. Improves quality of care coordination between VA and community providers. Assigns responsibility and delegates authority to effectively meet system objectives. Demonstrates responsibility for performance improvement activities and utilizes the information to enhance quality of patient care provided and ensures staff participation. Compiles and submits required reports in a timely manner including: performance appraisals, proficiencies, performance improvement reports, certified time, and other workload and patient care data requested. Completes special assignments and is a contributing member ofthe Community Care Service and system councils and committees as assigned by the Service Chief Counsels/disciplines staff members as indicated by performance or attitude; documents according to prescribed procedures; and maintains an objective relationship with the staff. Manages department resources within budgetary guidelines. Provides unit information to the service chief through accurate verbal and written repmis; keeps the service chief informed regarding critical patient care issues. Provides vital input into decisions regarding VA Care in the Community. Provides feedback to hospital management regarding issues and program changes Plans and conducts regularly scheduled unit staff meetings and huddles; encourages open communication and verbalization of options when identifying and resolving problems on unit. Provides for ongoing development of staff members through regular assessment of needs and scheduling of in-service programs, continuing education programs, participation in committees/councils and/or meetings, and compliance in annual mandatory reviews. Promotes and supports staff to pursue leadership, professional, and educational activities. Plans for staff to attend committee/council meetings and educational opportunities. Addresses internal and external customer concerns; problem solves and provides timely response. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals in coordinating care. Builds coalitions with community partners to ensure the health care needs of the AVAHCS patient population are met. Participates in professional organizations, hospital committees, or community activities to enhance skill sets. Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
