The VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System is recruiting for one (1) full-time Licensed Practical Nurse for the Outpatient Nursing service line. This position is located at the Omaha VA Medical Center. Major functions and activities: Patient Care/Clinical Skills 1. Demonstrates technical proficiency in initiating, performing, and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations including preventive health screening as appropriate. 2. Displays the knowledge and ability to appropriately carry out assigned patient care based on the patient's condition; to use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and to accurately recognize , report, and record relevant patient information. 3. Demonstrates the ability to observe, identify, and respond to patient's needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education. In organizing and delivering care, the LPN recognizes and considers emotional, cultural, spiritual, socio-economic, and age-related factors. 4. Prepares and administers prescribed medications and performs treatments according to established policies/procedures, monitoring patients accordingly. 5. Utilizes knowledge and skill in performing support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient's condition before, during, and following the procedure. 6. Recognizes and responds to urgent or emergent patient care situations and/or patients at risk. seeks the assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiates appropriate emergency interventions as directed. 7. Educates patients and family members in relation to common disease processes, medications and/or treatment regimes. Administrative Skills/Completion of Work 1. Enters data into the VISTA/CPRS system accurately and timely, providing administrative and clinical staff with required information, including My HealthEVet. 2. Completes assignments and captures workload within specified timeframes. 3. Complies with VHA Scheduling Directive related to scheduling of appointments including correct identification of desired date, identification of veterans to be placed on Electronic Wait List. 4. Uses judgment in selecting the most appropriate application of procedures and guidelines. Encourages patients/staff to adhere to policies and procedures related to safety/infection control/information security. Maintains a safe, clean environment. 5. Demonstrates competency in safe use and cleaning of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME). 6. Recognizes, reports, and acts upon any situation that may be potentially dangerous to patients/staff/visitors. 7. Utilizes safe patient handling equipment techniques in lifting, moving, and transferring patients. 8. Demonstrates ability to identify and activate Emergency Management Plan. Customer Service 1.
