This is an open and continuous announcement which will be used to fill Nursing Assistant positions at the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The Nursing Assistant provides Veteran/resident care, performs clinical procedures, technical procedures, and ancillary services for Veteran/resident care. Performs a variety of personal care or nursing care activities which do not require practical or registered nurse licensure and/or education. Performs a wide variety of duties aimed at increasing the comfort of the Veteran/resident. Applicants applying for this vacancy could be placed in any of the following areas: Acute & Specialty Care: Includes inpatient medical and/or surgical units where the care provided includes post-surgical, telemetry and chemo. The applicant may also be assigned to the Emergency Department and/or the Outpatient Subspecialty Clinic Community Living Center: The six community living center units provide long term, rehab and/or memory care for our veteran patients. Mental Health: Provides care for inpatient mental health veterans or care in helping veterans with community re-entry (residential rehabilitation). Duties include but are not limited to: - Is ready to receive report at the start of scheduled tour. - Listens attentively to report, takes notes, and asks for clarification when unsure of content. - Receives work schedule with instructions and asks for assistance/ guidance as necessary. - Accepts adults chosen life-styles and assists necessary adjustments relating to health. - Assists patients to keep physically and socially active. - Attends interdisciplinary rounds and discharge planning meetings, developing a beginning awareness of team member roles and educational tools. - Implements patient instruction/discharge planning interventions for assigned patients as designated by Team Leader/Charge Nurse. - Provides respectful care that maintains individuality, dignity, and self-esteem for Veterans in an environment that focuses on their care needs and quality of life. - Functions as a therapeutic companion (TC) for Veterans who need close observation. TC assignment includes providing care (baths, personal hygiene, feeding, elimination, and intake and output) for Veteran and preventing Veteran from hurting himself or interfering with the treatment by pulling out lines/IVs. Keeps Veteran under direct observation and engages Veteran in activities as indicated. Work schedule: 7:30am-4:00pm including weekends and holidays OR 3:30pm-12 midnight including weekends and holidays OR 11:30pm-8:00am including weekends and holidays. Compressed tours of duty may be available in some areas. The compressed tours of duty are: 7:30am-8:00pm including weekends and holidays OR 7:30pm-8:00am including weekends and holidays. Employee will be required to work one 8 hour shift per pay period, shift to be determined by Nurse Manager.
