The Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) Registered Nurse (RN) Coordinator in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) demonstrates leadership and assumes continuing responsibility for the development, implementation, coordination, maintenance, and evaluation of the RME processes. These processes include integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influences organizational mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities for the Medical Center. The RME RN Coordinator has the ability to develop, present, lead, educate, and motivate all levels of personnel to ensure compliance with RME directives. The RME Coordinator must lead, collaborate, elicit support, network with interdisciplinary personnel, and collaborate with RME experts/resources. He/she is responsible for quality management, reprocessing activities pertaining to training, competency, assessment, development of standard operating procedures based on equipment manufacturers instructions for and aid in succession planning for all areas of RME with an emphasis on SPS. The incumbent participates in assessing the decontamination, high level disinfection/sterilization process of RME to include the environment, analyzing trends surrounding RME processes, communicating ideas, assisting in developing and proposing policies, and collaborating in the management of resources. The RME Coordinator RN collaborates with the SPS Chief and other Service Chiefs in the development, implementation, coordination, maintenance, and evaluation of all activities associated with reusable medical equipment. Responsibilities include but not limited to: * Researching all RME, whether it's non-critical, semi-critical, and/or critical. * Ensure compliance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Competencies with RME not only within SPS, but also within the Wards, Clinics, and Operating Room (OR). * Responsible for writing, updating, reviewing SOP's and performing/training/teaching competencies to staff members on a regular basis. * Serves as a member of RME Committee and in collaboration with the Committee, develops and monitors for routine RME inspections of all areas where reprocessing occurs to ensure ongoing oversight, according to Directive 1116(2). * Takes on new projects and finishes those projects well within the guidelines of what the SPS Chief requires. * The RME Coordinator, in collaboration with the RME Assistant Chief, SPS Chief, performs competency assessments with all staff utilizing several methods of review including observation, hands on, verbal and written exercises to evaluate staff knowledge. Follow-up review in six months for improvement as necessary. * Completes inspections of all areas that use Non-critical, semi-critical and critical RME for compliance of Manufacturer recommendations, updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and competencies. The details for each of these steps can effectively be documented in a locally established SOP, Causal Analysis (CA) or SPS manuals in support of customer complaints and issues. * Responsible for maintaining the Master RME list and ensuring all non-critical RME is properly labeled with manufacturer cleaning instructions.
